An Evening with Frank W. Ockenfels 3, moderated by Art Streiber
Thursday, 7:30-9 p.m., June 19
Frank W. Ockenfels 3 (www.fwo3.com) is a Los Angeles based photographer who has spent 18 years working as a portrait photographer, photographing musicians, celebrities, corporate heads, and maybe even your next-door neighbor.
His images have graced the covers of Rolling Stone, Esquire, Premiere, FHM, Blender, Newsweek, Wired, Entertainment Weekly, Spin, New York Magazine to name a few.
He has worked with most major record labels and has done over 200 album covers and press shoots for musicians such as David Bowie, Willie Nelson, No Doubt, Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, The Strokes, Joshua Redman, Garbage, and LeAnn Rimes to name a few.
Frank has photographed movie posters including Hellboy 2, Wanted, The Incredible Hulk, Harry Potter, Chronicles of Riddick, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind for studios such as Universal, Paramount, Focus Features, and Warner Brothers. He has done TV campaigns for all the major networks including The WB, ABC, NBC, CBS, Lifetime, Showtime TNT and Fox.
Frank has also directed for 7 years, doing music videos for bands such as Alice in Chains, Blues Traveler, Johnny Lang, the Deftones, Better than Ezra, and Everclear. He has shot commercials for clients such as Nike, Converse, K-Swiss, Canon and the New York Times.
Frank’s ability to adapt to unusual ten minute situations as well as staying away from the obvious seem to be his trademark. He believes in once meeting someone to then decide what the image will be, working with existing light and making light collaborate with the subject to create the moment. In many ways Frank is unconventional and believes that photography can still have moments of purity without being overly conceptualized or retouched.
